k200 or k20 for 1st dslr

Hi all,

For a 1st dslr which camera would you choose...the k200 or k20? I'm interested in shooting macro/close-ups, night scenes, portraits and urban design. I'll start with the sigma 17-70 and FA 50 lenses.

Both the 200 & 20 feel good in the hands. The one advantage of the k200 is the lower cost & that saving could then be used for good quality glass. The k20 is a more attractive package, but is it too much for someone starting out?

Cheers
Daz

I love my K20D, but I'm not sure I'd want to start out with it. I'd go with the K200D. Save a little dough, buy some lenses, and have fun! Then, you can get the K30D (or whatever the next new Pentax will be called).

they're both capable cameras... you and you alone can decide what you can afford...

So you're saying the K20D is more refined than the K200D?

no, not really, i am simply of the opinion that the K20D is just a better camera, everything in it is new

unlike the K200D, which really, is a K10D heart inside a K100D body.

I feel that CCD is outdated technology and CMOS is the way to go, also as someone that shoots many things in ISO1600 and some at ISO3200, quality of said modes is more important for me. ISO6400 is a bonus i never would have dreamed of on a pentax unit, yet here it is!

the only reason i pulled your feathers in the other thread is because honestly i'm sick and tired of watching people bag on Rice High for no other reason than to do it

its like highschool all over again.

Ask yourself how much you really have to spend on a Camera and Lenses right now. Then look what you need with the camera. I think the answer to your question will come easily from what you get from those two questions. You can get stunning pictures from both.

Thanks to all that posted replies.

FYI...I have just brought the K20D with the sigma 17-70 (only AUS $1580), which I know is a good price here in Australia. After weighing up the pros and cons for the k200 & K20, the K20D came out trumps.

The battery is charging as I type, so I better make a start on the brick sized manual. Let the fun begin!
