Are you pro ?

The question seems trivial but I'm very curious about the number of Pro in our Pentax community
To avoid confusion, below is how we classify Pro and Hobbyist :
  • Pro are people who make money with photography (either full-time or part-time) on a regular basis, semi-pros counts too
  • The rest of us are hobbyist (even if your photos are pro-level)
To begin, I'm a total novice and a big fat motivated hobbyist

Thanks for your respond

I make my living as a wedding photographer....but I'd be the first to admit there are plenty of more adept photographers in this forum.....I have been greatly inspired here and am generally in awe of the level of work......

You seem to be the first Pro in this poll I myself see many pro-level photos in this forum and admire their works a lot.
It's interesting to be a Pro too, you do what you like for a living, it's like living your dream

I've only been shooting with a DSLR for less than a year and a half. And I have no pro aspirations at this point - I'd spend more time perfecting my craft if I did.

I think it would be a nice retiring gig, though I'm sure in 20+ years things will have changed a lot and photographers might not even exist anymore as we know them...

I work full time as a commercial product photographer and do portrait/wedding work occasionally on the weekends.

I've been a working artist since 2003. Most of my 'professional' income has come from my efforts in clay. Occasionally when
times have been lean I've taken outside, (non-art related), work.

Once, many years ago, someone passed this bit of opinion: If you've ever been paid for your creation, you're a professional
in that discipline. I have indeed been paid for artwork that has incorporated my photography. I've certainly used my photographic
skills to supplement my other efforts, (documenting my work, etc).

I've never promoted myself as a photographer. But I do consider myself a professional, working artist and photography just
happens to be one of many tools I use to conduct business.

I'm a freelancer for my university's magazine, it is not a regular job, but it is fun to see my photos on paper in a real magazine!

I've been considered a pro for about 20 years. Shooting children, dogs (breed dogs), youth hockey leagues, 1st birthday parties ( two years ago), and families. I don't do this often anymore but having been paid, I'm considered a pro.

i've sold pics passively in the past via my site, but starting in 2013, I have been getting steady paid work in addition to that. Thankful for what's been coming my way (workshops, calendars, magazines, newsletters, portrait gigs, commercial product shots, several web banner images, couple album covers, etc)

let's just say if it weren't for my day job your poll would need a 3rd option: "starving artist"

I guess I am a pro sinceI've been paid for doing reference photos for natural science illustrators. That would be my dream job if I could get enough work doing it to pay the bills. But as it is I'd have starved to death months ago if it were my only income source.
