Couldn't they have used a white lens as well?

Speaking of which, at a recent concert, one of the press photogs was sporting a bright red lens shade which was really noticeable as he moved around the stage. Inside and outside, the shade was red.

Anyone have an idea why you'd want a red lens shade?

To gain advantage over the other photographers by distracting and confusing them?

So you don't notice the blood stains on it? (It may have been sharpened as well)

To match your shoes?

Maybe a bit of shiny camera bling draws the attention of the 'talent' better?

As stupid as it sound, it's probably it... this guy will more than likely have more shots of the artist looking at him (albeit with a WTF is that red thing look on his face)
