Pentax k20d High ISO Photo Gallery

Everyone's seen this one before, but I think it shows both the high ISO capability and the AF ability of the K20D. 135mm, f/2.8, 1/180s, ISO 2000.

Yee haw!

Gah! I just looked at the image I originally posted on my calibrated monitor and the colors were off. This one should be better. Still shows off the high ISO and AF-C capabilities of the K20D quite nicely, I think.

These aren't quite as action packed, but I know in my first full day with the K20D, I'm very happy with the quality of these high iso shots. All taken in jpeg ***, full res pics uploaded to flickr as is.

I think this must be the first cat picture I'm really happy with... (I've never really been into the taking pictures of pets thing...)

Both of these were ISO 3200 with the DA* 50-135mm.

Plenty of good examples here, but since you asked:

All with the Tamron 18~250
as shot, apart from a little USM to compensate for size reduction.

Sure there is noise at 100%, but printed, they are very usable.

Pentaxpoke, you're one of the ones who 'gets it' regarding the signal-to-noise
ratio concept, and appreciates how great the K20 does with noise. Nice idea for

Great examples, everyone. Should we ask the mods to move this to the gallery and make it a sticky? This should become a permanent link for people that talk about how the K20D can't do high ISO.

I want to go shoot a motorcycle race at ISO6400 f/2.8, 1/4000s and see if I can print it at 16x20.

Excellent idea! Also, I know what ad your are refering to...

It would be great if someone here who was at a motorcycle race would take such a shot because as we all know from the ad: "no other DSLR on the planet could have taken such a shot"

Though these are by no means "keepers" I went out and gave it a quick try. The first one is @ 3200 and the second one is at 6400. Someday I will figure out how to post larger images here like some of you are doing. The attachment icon seems to have shrunk my images.

Well I'm a little new to the K20D camera, so excuse me if I asked a dumb question. I've been interested in high speed, for action shots and low light without a flash. I read that the K20D is capable of ISO 6400 but the only option I can find is 3200. How do I get it above 3200? Is there a setting that I'm missing? I'm using a Tamron 18~250 lens.

By the way, I'm impressed with some of your pictures, they are great.

Welcome Hick. Go to your "Custom" menu. Item #4 is "Expand Sensitivity" Turn it on and you have iso 6400. The first post in this thread has a shot I took at iso 6400, and I think it is very useable. As indicated in this thread and others on this forum; the key to good high-iso shooting is to not underexpose! Expose to the right is definitely helpful in this regard.

Thanks, now it's time to get out and play. I'm planning a vacation, meeting friends in SD in a couple of weeks. Setting around a camp fire at night might make for some good photo ops.

Got chance to shoot a Internation Badminton Open a couple weeks ago. Here are some of what I got. All shots are straight out of the camera in JPG, AFC w/ K20D+FA*80-200, only resize and applied abit USM.
