People will have more lenses than camera bodies - well, enthusiasts will anyway. The body has to be good, sturdy, and easy to use. The lens has to produce an image YOU want.
It's a bit of a chicken-and-egg argument, but the lenses are primary in my view. That doesn't mean Canon doesn't have equivalent lenses to most of Pentax's lineup or vice-versa. The differences are what sell the system- whether weather-resistant, pancake primes, long zooms or telephotos etc. That's where the choice is made.
