Where would one go about finding this left handed film camera????
@willis and other eye-lefties:

The shutter is also a leftie - there's a lever through the fold-out cover that trips it.

Gee, I knew I used the two eyes trick somewhere else. Shotgun, yes, clay pigeon, no.

I'm a rightie but squeeze way too tight and have to relax or fatigue sets in.

My wife is right handed but shoots left eyed and has real problems with smudging the LCD with makeup - always complains about it, so I tell her "use your right eye", she retorts " you do it your way - I'll do it mine . . "

Like to know how other lefties cope with LCD smudge . . .

I have the delightful problem of being right handed and yet left eye dominant.
Cross-dominance is a good thing.....if you play golf (which I do). Your dominant eye is always closer to your target. The trouble is when the dominant eye completely takes over and the weaker eye isn't allowed any imput. You can end up with some judgement arror that way.

Judgement error...

Cross-dominance may explain quite a lot of LBA.

Left Eye

Have to use my left eye at the moment due to a recent cateract removal from my normal shooting right eye and its just plain weird. I cannot get used to this, be glad when I get back to normal.
P.S. What do you call a blind dinosaur? Doyouthinkhesawrus, and his dog? Doyouthinkhesawrusrex.
Cheers Josh.

I'm surprised to see so many left-eyers. I thought the right eye was pretty universal.
I on the other hand was surprised to see this poll. I think I've been shooting with my left eye since I got my first SLR in the 1970s some time. I guess I'm vaguely aware that other photographers use their right eye, but really, I've never given it a moment's thought personally.

I'd like to know how people box. Well, I have never boxed, but when I hold my fists up as if I were going to shadow box, my left fist is out front, my right fist is in between my left fist and my chest, and my head is turned a bit to the right. It just feels natural. It's as if I'm trying to protect my right eye. Odd, actually, since my right eye is worse than my left one.

If I drop the boxing idea and just stand up and look straight at something, and if I then consider turning my head one way or the other, as if I were having my own photo taken and I wanted to show the best side of my face, I naturally want to turn to the right and show the left side of my face. Turning to the left feels funny.

One last point. The poll asks what we do with our left eyes, and obviously, I answered that that's the eye I shoot with. So let me ask and give my own answer the obvious follow-up: If you shoot with your left eye, what do you do with your RIGHT eye?

My answer is, I do not feel the need to close my right eye while shooting. My brain simply filters out the input from that eye while my left eye is up against the camera's viewfinder. On the other hand, if I try shooing (contra naturam) with my right eye, I absolutely feel the need to close my left eye.

Will

P.S. I'm right-handed. I wonder if that matters.

Really interesting poll; glad to see there are other left-eyers out there. I've been trying to train myself to shoot with my right eye -- I hate pressing my nose to the LCD -- but I always end up bringing the viewfinder up to my left.

Almost all of the above:

I have to close my left eye to see the readout in the viewfinder, then open it if I am shooting action.
When I am trying to shoot hummingbirds, I find myself squinting hard, but that gives me a headache after a while.
When I turn the camera to shoot portrait mode, I cannot see the readout with my right(I don't know why) so I have to use my left.
My brother would keelhaul me if I tried to take his patch.

For LCD smudge, I put a screen protector for my palm pilot on it and trimmed it to size. Cuts down a little on visibility but not too bad.

I keep my left eye open. I prefer to use manual focus and I seem to get much better results with both eyes open.

So many lefties

I held the Pentax to my left eye and found that I had to hold the camera at an angle, because of my nose getting in the way. I never noticed this before, because my Nikon F2A's have an extended eye cup. Pentax needs to make a model with a nose well for those of us who shoot with the left eye. LOL
