Left eye

I squeeze mine so tight I could crack a walnut with my brow. It's a bad habit, and probably the reason my vision is getting worse in that eye. Thankfully, my right eye is tack sharp.

A mixture of 1 and 2, so can't really choose either.

When you say mixture, you mean that you sometimes leave it open, and sometimes close it? Otherwise, it doesn't make sense.

Most of the time I leave my left eye open... I sort of got used to that when I used to shoot video.

It depends,

If I am attempting to track moving action - birds, soccer players, whatever - I try to keep both eyes open. The Left is the wide view, the Right is the framing view. It takes practice, and will be the end of June before I am back in the groove. Every year, I have to learn it again.

For scenics and so forth, I don't need it, particularly with wide angles, and close the left eye. Comfortably, not jammed shut. It warps my contact lenses if I do that.

If I leave my right eye open it sees the rear wheel VERRRRY close

It gets tired if I squeeze it, and I have to quit, so I just close it.

Gentle goes it, unless tracking a moving object, no strain no pain. Unless I am playing cowboy and shooting from the hip. Then both eyes are open.

I'm surprised to see so many left-eyers. I thought the right eye was pretty universal.

Like tracking a clay pigeon with a shotgun.

My problem comes down to eye dominance. My left eye has much better vision than my right eye and is also dominant. If I want to use my right eye for focusing (or targeting with something like a rifle) my left eye has to be closed. If I use my left eye to focus then I can leave my right eye open.

When I'm using a camera I switch back and forth between using my left and right eye to the viewfinder depending on what I'm taking pictures of and whether or not I need to track what is going on outside of the viewfinder.

I squeeze my left eye fairly tight. I know from what I have read and heard, that it is desirable to keep both eyes open, especially when taking action shots, because that is one of the best ways to get 'the shot'. I have tried a couple of times but it is quite disorienting and I haven't had the time or patience to persist thus far.

I have the delightful problem of being right handed and yet left eye dominant. When I an practicing archery, or shooting rifles, I use my right eye to aim. I have found that I seem to have better composition with my left eye (perhaps because it is feeding info directly into the more artistic right side of my brain)...
