SR with manual zooms

I heard someone mention (may have been the other forum) that for his 70-200-ish manual zooms, he sets the SR to 135mm. Is this effective? So far, I've just been changing the SR as I change the focal length. Obviously, I'm not changing the focal length very often. I've kind of been thinking of it as a bag full of tele primes, where it's a pain to change.

I'd have thought you should dial in a focal length fairly close to what you use - or disengage SR! Perhaps you could run some experiments and show us the results?

I turn mine off, unless I absolutely need it for a given focal length.

There have been some reports here that leaving SR on an incorrect focal length will result in blurred images...

Logically, a small compensation is better than no compensation. So as long as you are fairly close to the entered focal length my guess is that is should be beneficial. Also if the entered value isnít spot on, itís probably better to stay on the low side with the entered value.

Whenever I use my 70-200, I always set SR to the minimum focal length. That way I always get at least some compensation.

If you set SR to 135 and use your lens @ 70mm, you'll get overcompensation and end up with even blurrier images!
