K3 & 4K interval shooting

Has anyone tried it? I've watched YouTubes and they look pretty good.

Maybe this is a stupid question, but, if the K3 can do interval what is keeping it from doing full blown?

Switch to movie mode. Press the top of the mode selection dial on back of camera. On right is Interval Movie Mode. Select your options. Press shutter release and wait for intervals to cease. There is a message when it is complete. Oh, it saves an avi file to slot 1.

I think the consensus is that the Prime III Processor used in the K3 is not up to handling the bitrate necessary for realtime 4k video.

Exactly. Try the 4k interval mode and you will see that it is really very few frames. A movie requires far more frames to be effective.

Thanks guys but I knew how to get it to record. It just has a unique look that I forgot the name of but its some type of shift in focus that creates unique look that makes seem like you're shooting toys if that makes sense (starts at 24 seconds). Also wondered about shutter speed & such.

I believe darwinfish105 used Interval Shooting and assembled the images afterwards, and did not use the K-3's automated 4K-Interval movie mode. He also combined Interval Shooting with HDR, I think... He made a couple of blog posts about his K-3 timelapses:

- High-Def(????): PENTAX K-3??????????
- High-Def(????): PENTAX K-3?????????? ???

You can use Google translate to get a sense of what he did, but Google struggles with that text. BTW, he used several lenses, including a tilt-shift.

I think he took the option to make jpg's in camera at 4,7 fps (midrange speed) and stitch them to this 4K video (wich is great).

Thanks for the links. Tilt/shift is what I was trying to remember... would love to learn that one day. That guy really put some work into making those as well.

Good to know he did more than just use the Pentax auto 4k mode. His stuff is clearly a lot smoother than what comes straight out of the camera.
