If you can't get a k5iis from Adorama before it sells out and are set on new, I'd also be considering the k-3.

With the great deals, buy the K-50 and the K-5IIs.

I certainly wish I could; but my finances say otherwise for a couple of weeks!

Brian and Tom, my finances won't stretch for the K-3 or for both K-50 and K5IIs!

Why not just buy the K-3? As I said, my finances are limited, and I don't need two new bodies, even if I could afford them.

The k-3 should keep coming down in price if you can wait, but who knows just how low.

What is your motivation for the upgrade? Is there something your k10d isn't doing for you? Is it on it's last legs? Something else?

No, the K10D is operating just fine. I bought it as a backup to a future new body. I like having two; as I experienced being without a lone camera when it had to go in for repair (not Pentax!).

Getting back to my original question here:

"Since the K5IIs apparently is discontinued, which would you choose, a used K-5 or a new K50"

The K3 is not even on the table, nor buying more than one body.

As you have apparently ruled out a used K-5ii or iis, I would suggest a new k50.

My friend just bought a new K-50 w/ DA 50mm lens for under $500 on Adorama. For that low of a price I think there's no question! But you'd be very well off either way.
