K10D with old lenses and flash

I'm thinking of purchasing the K10D.
I have an old SUPER PROGRAM SLR with the following flash and lenses:

SMC Pentax-A zoom 1:4 70-210mm
SMC Pentax-A zoom 1:4 24-50mm
AF280T flash

I understand that these should work with the K10D, but would anyone recommend this or is it better to just go with the lens packages that they are offering with the camera like:
Pentax K10D + 18-55mm + 50-200mm

How do the quality of these lenses compare? Is manual focus still practical?

As far as the flash goes. Are there issues? I guess I can't use TTL auto.
Any links to info very welcome on these issues.

First of all, welcome to the forums!

Those zooms you enumerate are constant f/4, which isn't half-bad. Unfortunately, they are also MF, and since the K10D doesn't have a microprism/split-prism focusing screen, you'll have quite a hard time focusing quickly enough, especially at the longer end of your 70-210.

You could buy a "Katz Eye" focusing screen, to help you with your focusing. Or you could sell your A lenses and buy DA lenses. Unfortunately, the DAs don't get along well with your Super Program (horrible vignetting).

So you can choose between AF but no compatiliblity with film bodies, or backwards-compatible MF lenses.

If I recall correctly, you have auto flash options with the 280T using its own sensor, and these will work perfectly with the K10D. TTL will not work at all.

the A lenses will work fine with the built in flahs, but you would need to get a P-TTL flahs if you want higher power,

Thanks ftpaddict.
But by the sound of it I should probably just go all the way with DA lenses.
I'll look around on the board for advice on this subject.
Backward compatibilty with my Super Program is not an issue, as I'll probably be doing little film fotography. Pity to have to part with this equipment but there's no point having it on the shelf.
Well, at least I can keep the flash...
