focus screen cleaning

Hi, I`m a new member and fairly new to DSLR`S. I`ve tried to remove a speck of dust from my focusing screen with a Pentax sensor cleaning stick & managed to smear the centre of the screen. Can anyone recommend a safe way to clean the screen.

a much safer way would be a simple photographic blower like this: AA1920 Giottos Rocket Air Blaster, Manual Air Blower with Extra-Large Rubber Bulb - 5.3" Long as for cleaning the smudge I cant really say. I know that pentax uses a coating on their screens for better brightness and maybe you somehow damaged that coating but I cant really say for sure.

no offense in any way but I cant imagine what would compel someone to use a sensor cleaner on a focusing screen.

Yes, the Giottos Rocket Blast works great for this. I've removed dust from both the sensor and the focusing screen with it.

If you touched the screen you likely ruined it. The screen has thousands of little "bumps" on its surface. Putting any kind of pressure on them flatens the bumps and changes the optical nature of the screen. The bumps make the screen brighter. No bumps makes for a darker image in that area of the screen. Probably will have to be replaced. Hope you have one of the Pentax with interchangeable focusing screen (*ist D, DS, DS2, K10D, K20D, maybe others).
thanks
