Copy the bin file to an SD card.
Inset into K10D
Turn on camera while pressing menu button.
Firmware will update.
There are instructions to do this on the Pentax support site - where you downloaded the file from.

You don't have to open the file, just copy it to the SD card and proceed as mentioned above. The program that the file is looking for is in the camera's firmware.

When you connect the camera directly to your computer (or if you use a card reader), the memory card appears as a removable disk drive in the My Computer window. Make sure you are using a blank/formatted memory card, then drag & drop (or copy & paste) the firmware update file (FWDC131B.BIN) from the

In my "MY Computer Window" there is nothing relating to my K10D .

However , if I have just one photo on the SD , then I hear that sound that tells you , you are connected and the icon appears in "My Computer Window , dragging the file does not work .
I get the circle with a line through it telling no "NO" .

I give up for a while

If the card is in a reader or the camera is connected to the computer, you should notice a new letter described as a removeable disk. It wil probably be designated as "E" drive or greater depending on how many drives you have in the computer. The letter is assigned by Windows when a new drive is connected. Then copy the bin file to the card. Use the copy and paste commands. I don't think you can drag files between drives. Then proceed as Garth has said above.

I just checked and apparently files can be dragged between drives. Try the copy and paste commands.

Your problems are entirely Windows, not Pentax.

You will have to check:

(1) Your SD card reader is working properly: try to copy (drag and drop onto SD card reader letter (like "I:") in "My Computer") an image file into an empty card. If this fails, consult your SD card reader manual.

(2) If you can copy an image file, but not the .BIN file, then your Windows is configured such that it insists to convert files into "portable" or "mobile" media formats. Reconfigure it to not attempt media conversions. Google for it as I cannot tell you where to configure it.
