well, did a bit of cleaning, and it seems the focus pin drive (tested on all my lenses) and dial issues are fine, but she now refuses to shoot when her flash is up

Which made me panic a bit since i couldn't find my AF540 and my el-cheapo 3rd party sync only flash is really flimsy...

not firing with flash up is the problem my DS has. Internal flash circuit board may have gone bad. Try turning mode dial to no flash and see if it will fire (mine will). Means that your flash died. This doesn't affect your hotshoe flash working at all. Wouldn't want to live without inboard flash on K10/20D because of wireless flash. On DS it makes no difference to me.
