What First DSLR did you give your kids

As the title suggests, what did you get your kids for a first DSLR. I just went through this process, maybe I'll tell at some point but I would like to see what others did also

Choices are

New Flagship (K3, K5 what ever when it was the top model)
New Mid level (K-s1 or when they were available things like the K200)
New entry level (K50 is the current)
Used pentax
Other brand

Not my kids, but my nieces. They got my 2nd *ist and a K-x I was given recently respectively. I usually do pass on any old bodies I don't want to them and their friends. I have a sort of impromptu class thing going on with a whole group of my nieces and their pals. At this point I'm teaching like 8 kids photography...

My daughter has a Canon 10D that I bought for her a couple years ago for under a hundred bucks. Those ol' Canon horses never seem to die...

I guess it depends how old your kids are.
My daughter is 7, so I gave her my Q + 02 as Christmas gift after I bought Q7. But she soon asked for a real camera (DSLR). So I bought an used K-r as birthday gift, because it is a powerful enough camera and is small and light. 6BQ5 gave me his Pentax FA 28-105. It is compact and light again, matches K-r perfectly. She can not handle wide lens yet, so 28-105 is great for her.

Neither of my kids have a DSLR yet. I have given my daughter a superszoom Nikon and my son had another used modest zoom Nikon. Both used Pentax and Fuji point and shoot cameras at one point or another and phone cameras.

My intent is to shoot some with my daughter (the older child) but she's too embroiled in her teenage friends and my son is too into his xbox games and football right now. I have a K100D that is available should either one get the bug, and after that I suspect I would buy them a used Pentax of some sort since I have a pair of Kit lenses I'm not using and a couple of other fun goodies.

My kids get to use my old istDS and K20d but only with a Pentax M-50mm f/1.7 lens. They get digital functionality but they have to learn to shoot in manual mode.

Uhmmm *

#1 wanted the K1000SE
#2 asked for one of the Q / 02 kits
#3 didn't want one - Grad school takes too much time so she just uses her phone.

* I can't give 'em away.

DSLR? How about a film SLR first? My older boy got a MV and my younger boy got K1000.

If/whenI have kids I'm going to hand down my Leica M7, with a summilux 50mm f/1.4 ASPH and see what they can do. I started on an M3 with a summicron 50mm f/2.

If they have a knack for it, THEN I'll let them use some the gear I have.
