What I want . . . . am I alone?

What I want in a Pentax (or any other) flagship camera. A fully manual, match-needle DSLR of minimum 30MP, no modes, no flash, no frills - just a shutter, aperture, top-notch sensor, minimalist menu, on/off switch autofocus with only a central focussing dot, absolutely solid, a DSLR version of a Topcon RE Super or an Alpa. Don't care if it's a Cmos or full sensor. Just the most basic, beautiful, and toughest camera ever made. Weather sealing would be the icing on the cake.

Dream on, Gord, dream on.

Does ANYONE else out there even sympathize, or am I alone??

No you are not alone, this same topic comes up at least once a week. Gosh, there must be at least 10 people that want the same exact thing.:-)
There will shortly be a whole list of responses detailing why it will never happen so I won`t bother. I do sympathize, but no it`s not going to happen.

Raw only. Purists can do the jpg processing themselves.

I also would like exactly what you would like. Sadly, I don't think one is ever going to be made; I'm currently using a substitute which is a K-3 with almost every optional feature disabled and using old film lenses. While not quite as nice as a digital version of a MX, it does the job and still gets the odd look of envy from my Nikon and Canon wielding friends.

Take your K-3 and......

- put it in M-mode
- imaginen it's 30 mp
- forget all those buttons
- never pop-up the flash
- never dive into those menu's, since you don't need them
- put it on central AF point

and off you go.....

Yeah, it's: "it'll never happen" and "bah, it'll never sell", untill Sony just does exactly this and then it's: "oh, Sony is just shooting in random directions and seeing what sticks."

Exactly. Better yet, just rip the buttons of it after it's been set

Still, there is a lot to be said for just dam well shooting film if thats the experience you are after. Spend the 2k on a decent scanner, the $40 bucks required to get a film tank and enough chems and there ya go.

I want one too, but I don't need 30 Megapixels. Just a b&w/color switch.

The basic list you have of features, aside from being digital would never sell. Practically speaking, you are better off with an old film body if this is all you want.

Once you put the horsepower of an embedded computer, specific image processors, motors, the AF controls etc, you might as well make it have more metering points, AF points etc. Note, the fl gas hip cameras already have everything you ask for , except at the instant, 30MP,

There are no "modes" as such, just simple controls, TV, AV , manual etc. there is no flower mode, landscape mode, portrait mode, sports mode etc. those things are on beginner cameras simply to help people be minimally competent right out of the box, without learning anything useful.

...and then match that with an editing tool that's just a Histogram curve adjustment tool, nothing else.

All that you want exists, but the modern cameras also have extra stuff in them. If you don't want it, don't use it. If you want a basic camera to save money, then Pentax won't do it, not enough of a market. If you don't want a basic camera because a more complex feels TOO complex, then switch to M, lock it there, and shoot away

The K-3 manual was actually a disappointment, there wasn't enough info in it.
