K5 Storage

Hi All, I have not had time to use my K5 recently. What is the best way to store it if you know you won't be using it for maybe 3 months? Thanks.

Just keep it in an environment that's free of humidity and dust. An indoor cabinet should do just fine Use some silica gel packets if it's normally humid in your area.

Best approach? Remove battery/batteries, remove lens, place front end cap on the body, place it in a bag with silica. Keep it away from heat and humidity.

Or just leave it on the shelf as is until you are ready to use it again - I think they will be OK.

Recharge the battery before storage so you won't lost the time and date settings.

Dust and humidity are the enemy. Use an airtight storage box (a cheap plastic one from a container store will do) and add a dry pack desiccant (gun shops sell rechargeable packs, but you can use disposable silica gel from Walmart or other places). Keep a lens or body cap on the camera.

Store that box someplace as dry as practical. Avoid basements and bathrooms. Heated space is drier than unheated space.

If you live in a desert you can forego the humidity protection and just keep everything in a camera bag.
