New camera vs. new lens.

My current equipment is: K100D, Pentax 10-17 FE, Pentax 18-50mm, Pentax 40mm ltd, Pentax 77mm ltd, and a Promaster 28-200mm.

In the very near future I will have enough money to buy either a K20D or a new lens or 2.

I've had the K100d for a 1.5 years and sometimes regret not getting the K10D, but now there's the K20D.

On the other side, who couldn't spend that much on new glass?

Then again I suppose I could go K10D and a lens...

Thanks for any advice.

Depends on what you take photos of I guess. If its wildlife, I'd go with a DA* 300mm. On the other hand, you could get a Tamron SP 300 or Tair for example and a K10D/K20D. ;D

I've looked at the DA*300mm a lot, but I think I would rarely use it. I'm never really in the position to take photos from that distance, aside from birds around my house when I'm bored :P.

When I find myself around the house like that, I'm usually wishing for the 100mm macro...

Decisions decisions >.<

If I were you I would definitely go for glass (I am having dreams with the FA 31 ltd)...
Even though the K20D has interesting upgrades the poor live view implementation is the only reason I won't be getting it. Get the K10D

Getting the 31mm would be my first priority in your situation.

Of all the lenses I have accumulated, this one is the only lens that is used just as much on digital as on film.(43mm is still my favourite on film though)

I would enjoy having this lens. My only issue is justifying a 31mm when I have a 40mm ltd. I suppose I could sell the 40mm...

A question for you, dgsullivan: do you print your photos large (13X19 inches or bigger)? If so, I think you might benefit from a K10D or K20D as the megapixel boost would likely make an appreciable difference in your prints, particularly if you crop.

Otherwise, why not buy a couple of lenses, including a nice macro (ummm...macros....) and maybe a DA* 50-135 (ummmm...!!!) even if your K100D won't drive the SDM.

we don't know what are your needs. If you just need to buy something, I hear that walmart see nice swimsuits for the summer...

Your line-up cover everything but tele and maybe low light ? Do you have strobes ? Why not spend that money in studio equipment over new lenses if you don't already have those ?

As I say before, we don't know what are your needs. If I was in your shoes with my currents needs, i'd sell everything and buy a 31mm or a zeiss 35 mm and a macro tele lens and and would cover 90% of my needs. But i'm not you!

what do you need ?

Well, I mean, I don't really NEED anything I suppose.

Photography is just a hobby. I plan on taking a class or two in college, but have no intention of trying to make a living from this.

I'd LIKE the 50-135, 300, or maybe a macro, but I'd like to be able to take full advantage of the lenses and improved/added features with a new camera body.
