Determining the number of actuations..

Most marketplace ads for cameras come with a number of actuations accompanying them.
How are these numbers found or arrived at?
Is there a way of getting an exact number or are they estimates?

Download PhotoME from this webpage > PhotoME - Exif, IPTC & ICC Metadata Editor

Install it and run it. Drag and drop your latest picture (jpeg, RAW acceptable) onto PhotoMe's window. The software will display all EXIF data it can gather from the image. Scroll down till you see number of actuations. (should all be there in a list)

This represents the number of actuations the camera has gone through since it was first powered on in the factory.

Thanks for this hint!

A new Pentax database is available on the PhotoME update server (in PhotoME: Settings-menu -> Online-update...). After you've done the update PhotoME will show "DA or DA*".
