To effectively answer this question the first follow up question would be - as a photographer am I focusing in a particular niche - fashion, sports, landscape, street, architecture, travel, portraiture, macro, wildlife, birds, trekking, or do I want to just cover the entire field of photography?

The answer to this is going to be dependant on the answer to the question about - just a specialist niche, or covering the field. If a photographer was wanting to just cover a particular niche, then they would choose the best tools for that job, if covering the whole field, then I suspect a superzoom of some description and body or bridge camera is where you might land.
Originally posted by RonHendriks1966 Would you'r choice be aps-c or maybe smaller like m4/3 or bagger as full frame or 645Z? What lens would you like to have? A prime a zoom? Or would you go with a point and Shoot like the Sony ff or the Panasonic zoom FZ1000?
There are still a lot of assumptions/questions needed to even get close to answering this question objectively, in addition to the niche or whole field question above
Do you want portability or not?
Are you shooting off a tripod or not?
Natural light or flash/strobe shooting?
WR or not WR required?
Image quality required?
Inside or outside?
Low light or daylight?
Moire inducing subjects or not?
Once a photographer has answers to the niche or general field questions, and the list above, plus quite a few more no doubt, then a decision matrix could be developed, and the best, affordable, compromise, or other camera body and lens could be selected based on that matrix.
Best wishes with that.
The reason I personally have a K3 and a range of prime and zoom lenses is to allow me to try different niches and enjoy them. I get a lot of enjoyment out of landscape photography - where if I was restricted to just body and one lens I would probably head to Medium Format and a high quality wide angle lens. I own neither of these yet - as I have preferred the more 'swiss army knife' approach using a DSLR gives me, as opposed to a very specialist tool that is represented by a Medium Format camera
