Pentax EI2000 / HP C912

It was a camera co-developed by Pentax and HP and sold as both the Pentax EI2000 and the HP C912.

Here is complete information on it from Steve's Digicams: Steves Digicams - HP PhotoSmart 912 - User Review

I have one, although it now sits un-used most of the time

It has a whopping 2.1MP sensor. is a range finder camera with live view.

Having said that, it travelled with me for work everywhere and took over 4500 shots before I replaced it.

The biggest issues with that camera were the battery cover, which broke, and often lost contact with the batteries, and the continual loss of date information when batterise were changed.

Yep, heard about it. Wouldn't see the point in having one nowadays. Maybe exclusively for it's collector's value.

Actually, Pentax made its' worst camera when they cooperated with HP. This one was maybe the 'least worst' of the pack, but came too late to the market when Oly already had its' E10/20 and Minolta the Dimage 7...

I would like to have one though, just for collector item, that is...

If I'm not mistaken, that would make Pentax the first manufacturer of a DSLR camera with live view. Some people might argue the SLR label, but having the viewfinder looking through the lens, whatever way it is done, make it a DSLR.

I was going to write that the Olympus E10 was earlier, but looking at the dates on dpreview, the E10 came later than this IE 2000, so probably Pentax was indeed the first with a live view DSLR...
