Pentax Camera on PBS News

I was watching a clip on PBS News(Public Broadcasting Station) last night about photographers trying to catch the much alluded Moon Rainbow. A moon rainbow is produced when the light of the moon hits a waterfall in a certain way that causes a rainbow in the middle of the night.

From what I can tell, there were hundreds of photographers at this site waiting for the Moon to do its magic. All I could see where hordes of white lenses flashing in the night. Then the leader of a certain group of photographers began speaking to a PBS reporter explaining why there were so many photographers at this site in front of a waterfall in the middle of the night.

Sitting on top of his tripod was a Pentax Camera. Not sure if it was a K3 or a K-5 ?, but it was definitely a Pentax. I could clearly see the Pentax logo as he showed the reporter some of the pictures he had taken so far on the back LCD. Wait a minute, if I could see the Pentax logo on the back of the camera it was probably a K-5(preferably a K-5IIs) . We are not alone !

Doesn't PBS always tend to favour the underdog?

Well, if it didn't say "RICOH" instead of "PENTAX", it wasn't a K-3 - LOL.

My guess is that Ricoh execs would have preferred that it were a K-3 that was shown -- however, I think that's short-sighted -- I think that Pentax is a "brand" to be "pushed"...

As a new K-3 owner, I am getting used to seeing "RICOH" all the time on the back of my new toy, um, er, "photographic tool", but I am glad and proud that the fron of the K-3 proclaims "PENTAX" to the world.

There is a close up of a Pentax at 1:15 and another at 3:50
Most of the other close ups are of Sonys.

There are at least least three Pentax cameras in the clip, including the one mentioned in the OP. However, it looks like those are his workshop participant's cameras. The only camera it shows him operating is a Sony mirrorless. Of course that could be one of his participant's as well. Gary Hart is a big enough name, I think we would know if he was a Pentaxian. On his website I could not find any reference to what brand he shoots or any corporate sponsorship, but there is one picture of him with what appears to be a Canon in hand.

It's not a K-5. K20D or K10D?

Looks like my K10D but could be a K20D - look at the focus point mode dial.

Notice SR is on while mounted on a tripod but maybe has mirror lockup enabled.

K20D

K10D

It's a K10D! Look where the SR "hand" symbol is located.

So.. THAT is why we never see the 'other' Pentax shooters.. they only come out at night to huddle around a waterfall in the middle of no where. haha
