K3ii vs Oly vs 645z

Interesting review, if it hasn't already been posted here.

Makes we wonder, will the FF have PST or will Ricoh wait a couple of years to make it available and call it the FFII as they did with the K3 and K3II? The FF with PST should rival the 645Z, MAYBE.

My thoughts as well. 645z still rules for the moment, but that could change (guess it WILL change eventually, but maybe sooner than i would've thought).

As long as this pixel-shifting tech requires a tripod, I don't think it's going to render larger formats obsolete. However, I'd expect the FF to have the pixel shifting to stand out among the competition.

Agreed. Tripod and static subject are limiting. But for people shooting static subjects from a tripod it's going to be a very compelling alternative.

I am surprised with test photos, because the "normal" photo always seems so.. soft. If the K-3II single shot at ISO 100 is that soft, that is a bit odd. Or is that not a 100% crop, but an enlargement? Makes me think the image was manipulated to make the "sensor shift" photo seem so much sharper (and it does look great). I think just mounting a DFA 100mm and adding a bit of sharpening in PP should have a photo as sharp as that.
This is often done in advertisments to show difference between "HD and SD" or "SR off, SR on" or "16MP and 36MP". They just take a regular photo, then make a sharp copy and a blurred copy. Maybe I am overly cynical, though. I hope the sensor shift really is that effective.

Since most of the color data in conventional bayer images is interpolated, they have an inherent degree of softness at 100%. Assuming perfect conditions, that shouldn't be the case in images shot with pixel-shifting. Same goes for black and white sensors.

Yeah, 645zii. I've wondered why the 645's didn't have built-in stabilization. I'm sure there's a good reason and I'd love to know what it is.

Technical difficulty to up scala the ibis to the langer format sensor module made this impossible.

How long has the 645Z been out I'm thinking over a yr as my old memory serves. If that is the case a natural would be to put PS in the 645Z and then look out Phase One and all the others. For non moving subject the FF w PS would smoke the 810d and the 645z would be insane

I would think it would be possible to build a pixel shift system that didn't require IBIS. Basically some type of device that held the sensor and was capable of moving it 1/2 to 1 pixel each direction. Maybe you could leverage that as well and allow some composition adjustment as well. Seems like you do some of those things without needing to actually stabilize a medium format sensor.
