whats that spec of light?

aside from the obvious dust spot on the left, whats that conical light beam in the center of the sky?

this was at F9.0 @ 20 seconds exposure ISO 800 (i know, very odd combination, LOL)

I think it's the portal that Rasputin opened up in "Hellboy".

I could be wrong.

Crop it 200% and maybe we can see the UFO! ;-)

If you have a K20D, maybe you can crop to 300%! LOL..

well seriously now people,

there wasnt anything flying overhead while i was taking the pixture,

also my sensor is dirty and there were maybe 12 hot pixels that were mapped out,

so what could have caused this?

my guess is internal reflection

If you look closely, and also enhance the contrast there is also a much larger circle about 10 times the diameter of the small corcle around the point.

there is aslo a second point to the right of the first in the opposite direction.

I would guess this is a reflection off the sensor, and bounced back off the rear element.

Out of curiosity what did you shoot this with? EXIF says 10mm

Star?

At first I admitted to be a rehearsal of the latest Overhead Wide Coverage Flash System (OWCFS) from Pentax, whose systems have been widely criticized, but then I realized that it could be just a wandering star that passed unnoticed.

What about one of them huge "batman"-like lights that are popular to have at concerts and pubs and stuff like that? They can be near impossible to spot, unless there is cloudy. So maybe you did not see it and at the time of exposure it hit a cloud?

My vote goes on internal reflection, as Lowell pointed out earlier.

any filters attached to the lens? I put a cheap Sunpak UV on my zoom and it is really "good" about adding reflections especially in night/moon shots.

were you inside shooting out a window? I have a ton of shots from the top of Tokyo Tower that have reflections from ambient indoor lights bouncing off the glass windows
