Hello All,

Just to let you know -- the deal can be sweetened using Amazon Gold Box technique.
Right now the kit is $669.75 on Amazon and it is in my Gold Box for $636 with free shipping.
Pentax rebate will take it down to $536.25
Too bad I'm not gonna buy it

I am watching the K200D prices fall down sharply especially after Canon rebates...just very eager to see it hit the $500 USD mark soon ;-)

If you have the lens you can sell 18-55mm AL II (presumably for ~$170) and will enjoy your beloved body for $536-$170=$366

If I'm not mistaken, the 18-55 AL II can be had all day for $99 or less.
And the price on the Amazon kit has gone down anther $10 since this post.

Yeah. You will probably not sell that AL II lens for more than $99 .
That said, if you don't care about that lens, the difference in K200D body only and K200D with the AL II lens is only about $25 on amazon . So you might still profit a bit from selling it.

Another nice thing about amazon - they have a 30 day post-purchase price guarantee. That means you can call in and they will refund you the difference if an item dropped in price. I bought my K200D kit on 5/28 for $677.48 (didn't use the gold box trick). I called today to get the $657.62 price . I have about $20 coming back to my amex as a result.

Yes you're right, $99 is more realistic estimate. But it is great deal anyway and I finally bought it today. K200D+18-55mm+16-45mm+grip. So I'm almost pentaxian now still have to wait for the camera to arrive though

Unfortunately for me (in NYC) Amazon has begun having to collect sales tax here, as well as a handful of other states. Factoring that in, I got a better deal on Buydig on one for my daughter, same place I got my K10D last year. And the free 7-10 day shipping generally arrives in NYC in one day.


Wish I could have decided on something else on the rebate list in before I had to pull the trigger, but it's probably just as well : )

Hi. Newbie here. I was hoping to get my new camera now, but my husband said to wait and he will get it for me for Christmas. I know that the rebate will be over then - but do you think there will be other promos at that time?

Sure it will -- and new cameras, too. So if you can wait till Xmas, wait for better deal/camera.

you may want to take note though of the kit lens you already have as it is probably version I i don't know if the II is any better

That's even a bit better than the deal I got! $643 in Gold Box. I wrote up a little description of how I got it in my Gold Box and posted it somewhere here I think. I can repeat that if anyone wants.

The 30 day price drop thing probably doesn't help if it was in Gold Box though you think? If it does please let me know ASAP as I think I have just a couple days left on the 30 days.
