Don't Try This At Home !

I had my K10D, with Battery Grip, Sigma 105 on and metal screw in hood, resting on a monopod, holding it like a baseball bat in one hand talking to my wife. (Can you see where this story is going?) I must have jiggled the monopod and wham about a 3 foot fall, I know now I may need a new head for the monopod. On carpet you say, of course not on a tile floor . I was speechless - looked at my wife and them down at the camera. Was fully prepared to cry ... (or at least curse my stupidity!)

Picked it up - the metal hood now has a sizeable dent in it (it took the brunt of the impact it seems). Could not see any other visible dents , cracks. Took a couple of pics , took the lens off and on. All seem well.

Build Pentax Tough ... wheeeeeeeeeeeeeew

Not pro quality EH?

Dave

where is that guy who complained about the broken viewing screen because he dropped his K10 a foot.

Sounds like your K10D is pro quality

Dave,
I just did a Google search and it appears that St. Veronica (or Berenice) is the Patron Saint of Photographers (also laundry workers, go figure). I'm not religious myself but you might want to offer a few words. even if you're not religious, it don't hurt to hedge your bets.

Dang. Sounds like you got very lucky, or not. This could be the photography gods telling you it's time to upgrade to the K20.

Bloody clumsy canuck!! no need to actually road test the legendary Pentax toughness.....just take the word of others for it.

Hang on to the damned thing next time!

Seriously Dave....very glad it turned out ok , but mate, you dont need to destroy the K10 in order to justify buying the K20. (make sure you drop it from a greater height next time onto concrete ...that should fix it)

Cheers
Grant

The hood took the hit? Score one for the hood crowd! (in the ongoing hood vs filter debate)

On my very first shoot with my new K20 (+grip+lens ofcourse), my beloved Pentax 10 Million anniversary strap simply came loose from the camera and the K20 took the plunge. I tried to grab it, which might have slowed the fall a bit, but it landed luckily on soft muddy ground. Everything is fine, just the lens hood of the Sigma 18-50/2.8 has a scratch now...

So the current Pentaxes are quite sturdy, I guess...

Ben

P.S.. I have replaced that strap with a modell, that can't (?) come lose

I would still have it sent in to do a diagnostic. The sensor housing might have been affected. That is what I would do.

Another perverse case of Murphy's Law(also Sod's Law since the underlying principle recognizes no boundaries, it only has different names) at work!

Glad to hear that everything appears ok, though....

Oh, the camera works fine and I have taken a couple of thousand pics since the fall. Anyway, I send in my cameras regularily for checking and so I will wait, whether it works fine until my next routine check... I am confident!
