K 3II or KS2

I am planning to buy a new camera body within next 10 days; I've a k 10D - might have taken few thousand pictures, mostly on travel and family events. So, not a big user of features that the DSLRs offer; Anyway, should I go for a KS2 or a K 3II?

Only you can really answer that based on your personal wants and needs weighing which features one camera has over the other you consider will suit you best.

I'm also using a K10, and when I get a new body, it will probably be the KS2, simply for the articulating screen. This is an important feature for me; but perhaps not for you. I don't think you would go wrong with either. Just compare the features of both, and pick the one that seems a match for the type of photography you do.

BTW, Welcome to the forums!

K3/II is more in line with the K10D. But for the given use I would happily go for the K-S2; you can even consider a K50. If you have the option, handle them; I think they are quite different.

If you take a lot of family photos, the KS2's wireless features and screen are nice to have. Both cameras are a big improvement over the K10D in just about all aspects.

If all you are taking is family snaps and vacations I would get the KS2. I doubt you would make use of the extra features of the K-3II so the money can go toward a nice lens. And the built in WiFi might be of use.

Based on what you said in the OP, I'd say the KS2.

I went thru this exercise. I went with the K-3II for the better autofocusing and 14 Bit Raw. I had a K-30, which had 12-bit Raw, which the K-S2 also has. The IQ was great, but it did not have the same post processing headroom that my K-5 had. Noise would begin showing up earlier as you pushed the shadows.

But in your shoes, I would go for the K-S2 and pocket the extra cash. I also find the swiveling screen very handy and that was almost enough to sway me that direction.

Frankly, If all what you take are family pictures and you don't need to change lenses, I wouldn't even get a DSLR. Unless you have already invested in Pentax lenses.

I kind of agree...but decent fixed lens options (think RX10, LX100, RX100) tend to be more expensive than low/mid end dslrs with 18-55 +55-200mm lenses.

Correct, but they have their advantages. Why carry a big DSLR if you are not going to change the lens. Also these small cameras are actually smarter in auto mode than a DSLR. The quality is very close and unless you know exactly what you're doing, taking good photos is actually easier using RX10 or RX100.
