Cost of Pentax K50

I am considering the purchase of a K50 to upgrade from my Kx. On Amazon the cost of a new black body is $$291, whereas a used one is listed at $350. Why is a used body more expensive that a new one? I'm assuming that the used one does not include a lens.

I agree. But why would anybody buy a used one for a higher price?

Because the seller bought it when they were twice the price new.
Ricoh kill the 2nd hand market by massively dropping the prices of their cameras when they are or near EOL.

If somebody buys the used one for more, it's just because they're not paying attention, unlike you!

You can put anything on Amazon for any price you want. A little bit like fishing... "Let's cast this lure of "good used" out there and see if we can part a fool from his money."

It must work enough times to make it worth it.

P.S.: Love my K50. And yes, I bought it new :-)

I saw the same thing with the K-3 recently; popped into used bodies and all but one was higher than the current deal. When prices drop in fits and starts the disconnect gets pretty silly - but definitely take a deal when you see it

Both of the 'used' K-50 sellers on Amazon are 3rd parties, not Amazon itself. They aren't even "fulfillment by Amazon" sellers. Even though they are on Amazon, they might as well be eBay 'Buy It Now' listings - completely disconnected from Amazon's pricing. The sellers may have listed their items when Amazon was asking $500 for a new K-50, and never changed them.

Buy the new one and add the extended warranty. Great steal of a camera.

Newish K-50 on Amazon

Recently got mine on Amazon.

Pentax K-50 16MP Digital SLR Camera with 3-Inch LCD - Body Only (Black)
Sold by: Amazon.com LLC
$290.46

New in box with battery, charger, USB cable, CD (FWIW) manual.

Wait a couple of months and the price will probably come down.

Depreciation on electronics is pretty typical, especially since cutting edge today is obsolete in a year or so.

Computers, PDs, and digital cameras don't make great investments - especially since you're probably going to lose it, break it, brick it, or get it stolen within 3 - 5 years on average. It's probably not going to be a family heirloom.

If I were in the market for a K50 right now I'd consider buying from this person in Norfolk Virginia who has a whole heap of lenses and accessories for sale alongside a K30 (arguably only slightly different from the K50) for a total of $585. I don't have the money so I haven't researched the lenses, but if I did have the money and I found that they're decent, I might buy the whole lot. It looks like a pretty good deal.

Unless it was a face to face transaction I would not entertain this deal. The lenses are all manual focus - some better than others and while the lot might be worth a couple hundred extra the loss of warranty and the lack of inspection of the goods would make it a no go.

If you want the black model, they currently include a 4GB EyeFi card at Adorama or a 16GB class 10 card at B&H, so if you don't have an SD card already, might want to look into those. 4GB is far too small for me, but a 16GB would store a lot of photos or a decent length of video. I bought the K50 myself last week at Adorama, and tossed the 4GB card in another device that could use it since I already had a 64GB card for my camera.

16gb sd card will hold over 600 Raw files, or over 440 RAW+ images... or if you shoot jpeg that number jumps to over 1200. At least with the K-50. Though a 16gb sd is roughly only worth about $12 USD (unless it's one of the really fast ones).
