Mega-bytes, giga-bytes and firmware updates

I see some of the same confusion I had when I did my first firmware update.

The Read me file said I needed a minimum of 8MB of card space on which to load the update.

What I saw was "8 GB" not "8 MB" so I thought I was going to have to buy this really expensive, high capacity card just to do my updates.

When it finally dawned on me that it was "Megabytes" and not "Gigabytes", I realized that my 1GB SD card would do the trick.

A "newbie" error.

I've seen this on at least three forums today. "I don't have a 16MB card, what do I do?" And, it's just confusion like I had.

If you have a 1GB card, or more, the 16MB file will fit nicely on the card for your update.

If you, as did I, misread MB thinking GB, just use what you have.

I fretted for three days before I figured out my error.

ciao`

Ed

I try to think of a Gb as 1000 Mb.

It doesn't really help much, but I try.

I remember paying Gateway2000 $40 extra for an 80MB hard drive over the standard 40MB, and buying QEMM to map every little bit (pun intended) of my 1MB of RAM when the 80286 chip replaced the 8086 - boy have times changed.
