Why PENTAX sucks? Repair service

What the heck is up with Pentax repair centers being totally INCOMPETENT!?!?!?!?

I have had the great luck as to not need another repair since precision took over for CRIS.
Sadly, Precision is just now as poor.

I sent in my lens for repair. I was quite explicit and clear about the problem.
The repair was done in an exceptional amount of time. i.e. a couple of days rather than the 8 weeks I was accustomed to having with CRIS.

Sadly, when I got the lens back it was in worse shape than when it went out.
Obviously NO TESTING WHAT-SO-EVER was done.
Obviously they did not read my note, as the repair stated would have little effect on the issue described.

I know nothing people here can do about it, but I love the Pentax cameras and most of the lenses are not bad... but Pextax's/Ricoh's choice of repair center is going to force me to go to another brand.... And that just really sucks!

Blargh!!!

Not that it is any condolence, but I've had several people tell me stories about bad service with the C and N brands as well. It seems "repairs" and "customer satisfaction" rate fairly low on the corporate scale these days, regardless of brand.

I know your feeling. See my post: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/10-pentax-slr-lens-discussion/288158-rece...ml#post3172660. From my experience, I suggest you complain to Ricoh/Pentax, not Precision. Precision will never make it right once it screws it up.

It will hurt Pentax, IMO.

Pentax should really make an effort to have multiple repair facilities in the US. It would be nice if they could bring their service here up to the standards they have in Japan...

This will end up being the reason they do not excell.

This is outsourcing to the lowest bidder in action! I don't think Ricoh is alone in this, it's been an ongoing trend in all industries, esp. electronics~

Some of the other brands are using Precision too. So switching brands may not help you there.

I had nothing but excellent service at CRIS except long delays which seemed to be Ricoh not delivering parts, not CRIS's fault.

Precision on the other hand, not so much and I will do everything I can to never send them anything again.

Hope the rumors about Ricoh opening their own US center are true.

If your lens is Out of Warranty, send it to KEH. They are very good. I had a SDM replaced on a DA 200 with perfect results, received here in less than three weeks from date of sending.

Or, you could buy another brand camera and send it to the moon when something fails. Just kidding.

Check the reviews with the other cameras, all the same on some sights I have read.

I have good experiences with C.R.Kennedy in Australia. SDM replacement on a second hand DA*16-50 done free of charge, DA40 with sticky focus ring, DA10-17 with similar issue and some physical damage. All perfect and reasonably quick.
They sent my de-centred DA15 to Japan for more precise work, and it came back mint.

KEH? Is that: www.keh.com?
I may have to give them a try.

Only my DA*16-50 lenses ever failed under warranty (all three failed several times for the same issue while under warranty).
Everything else from Pentax has been pretty rock solid.

I had the same issue with my camera. I refused to send it back to precision and ended up getting in touch with Joe Virgil who is the Pentax product specialist out of Denver Colorado. He sent me a new camera! More people need to voice their dissatisfaction to Pentax in order to get something done. Here is Joe's email: joe.virgil@us.ricoh-imaging.com ...His telephone number is 303-799-8000. Incidentally I owned a Canon lens that needed adjustment and it was a pleasant experience. Pentax needs to pull their head out of their butt on this!

That is an interesting assumption. What we do know is that Ricoh is not the only maker who uses Precision for their U.S. repairs. I believe that Olympus and Sony use them exclusively as well. Nikon has numerous repair contractors in the U.S. and lists Precision as an authorized facility. Nikon also has two factory repair facilities in the U.S. Canon has three factory repair facilities in the U.S., but also contracts with Precision, CRIS, and others.

I have dealt with Nikon service in the past and refuse to deal with them again (parts lost, repairs not done, long wait times). I have used Canon service for camera repair with no problems. I have also used Precision for Pentax repair with good results.
