K1000 and the 43mm

When I use the 43mm lens with the K1000D the aperture ring on the lens, it is kaput. It does nothing. Am I confused? Is this how it is with all pentax lens that have aperture rings (as in all non D lens)? Same with the K10?

K1000 or K100D? 43 is a D-FA lens. Should be fine on all bodies

Everything from the "K" lens onward will fit on any K-mount camera, from the KX and K2 to the ZX-5n and MZ-S, and including the K-1000 and all the M-series and A-series cameras. There are no significant incompatibility issues apart from the program-mode contacts present in the A-series onwards, and of course you need both an autofocus camera and and autofocus lens to get autofocus capability

u need to enable "use A ring" in the menue then press the ae-l button to stop down to whatever aperture setting u have set.. if u dont press the button the camera will use the widest aperture..

this applies to none A lens only.. or an A lens if u dont use the A position..

Hi and welcome to the forum. I don't have the K100D, I have the DS but I'm pretty sure the menu choices are pretty similar. To make the aperture ring on you lens work you have to go into the Custom menu and set "Using Aperture Ring" to option 2 "permitted" Then you can use the aperture ring manually. Alternatively you can leave the aperture ring on the "A" setting, set your mode dial to Av and change the aperture with the thumbwheel in the back of the camera. BTW, the second way is much easier!
