Lowell, if you read my post, it contained this line:

It is this ID (4 49) which is in the EXIF. The K10D shouldn't know if this is a Pentax or not. The problem only starts if you have two 3rd party lenses sharing the same lens id.

If you look at some of the previously posted tables, you'll see that it depends on the lens.

For whatever reason, Tamrons tend to be more likely to be uniquely identified, while Sigmas seem to be much more prone to lens ID collisions, making it impossible for an EXIF reader to identify the lens.

For example, my Tamron 70-300 is fully and uniquely identified, while my Sigma 17-70 shares a lens ID with one Tamron model and multiple Sigma models, resulting in it displaying as "Tamron <model info here> or multiple Sigma" or something like that.

While my tamron and my sigma 70-0200 F2,8 are correct, my sigma 10-20 shows up as a tamron 30-90mm F4 (oops)
