Grainy Viewfinder

Im not sure this is the best description for it though. Not complaining or anything just wanting to clarify something. I was out taking some sky/cloud shots and noticed that the viewfinder looked grainy on the blue sky. I havent noticed this on other images but there is generally alot of colors and shapes on my other images. Coming from a camera with an EVF, I'm not sure what the clarity of the viewfinder should look like. Does this sound weird? There is nothing wrong with the images other than underexposing (which I need to get used to and adjust), I just kinda imagined it would be like looking through clear glass.

Ingrid, the interchangeable Pentax viewfinder screens use a matte finish, which can be seen as a slight graininess as you report. It helps most folks to recognize when manual focus has been achieved without being too obtrusive when using auto focus. What you saw is normal for this type of screen. Not to worry!

This is good information. I am also wondering what that grainy stuff on my K100D and K10D too. It's a relief to read posts such as this.

Ingrid, this question received a very good response in reply #9 in thread https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-dslr-discussion/3198-k10d-viewfinder-question.html.

Basically, the grain is a side effect of making transparent glass matte. All SLR (film and digital) have it.
