just a thought - why not upgrade to a K-3 (or K-3II) and use the K-50 as your manual-only body?
Makes a whole lot of sense, methinks.

When I got my K-3, I put a split-screen in my K-50 and turned it into my manual focus/b&w camera. The split screen makes working with manual focus zooms like the M75-150 and M80-200 a real pleasure.
Similar strategy here. I use my K-3 as my AF (mostly) cam body, and an ol' faithful K20D (which has had a Katzeye screen in it for as long as I can remember) generally for MF. [This is not a rigid division, but it just seems to work out nicely that way most of the time without any extra effort needed to "enforce" the distinction.]

liveview works well for focusing, but isnt as responsive for catching shots. i never liked any aftermarket focusing screens i tried. i pay attention to subjects eye while manual focus. this gives best results.
