Pentax batteries

I have a young friend I'm helping get into photography. Her family bought her (I guess) a used Pentax k50. I'm a lifelong pentaxian and I have a K20d that I've used for four years, then I skipped right over the K50 to the K5II and the K3 in the past year. When her family bought the K50, apparently it didn't come with a battery charger. I don't know why. The K5II and K3 use the same battery and charger. Will that charger charge the battery that the K50 uses, which is apparently slightly different? Will the K20d charger work?

IIRC, the K-3 and K-50 use the same battery and the K20D battery is different.
You should be able to charge the K-50 battery with the K-3 charger, but not the K20D charger.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Don't attempt to charge unless my answer is verified by a more knowledgeable forum member.

EDIT:
K-3 uses D-LI90
K-50 uses D-LI109
K20D uses D-LI50

They are incompatible do not use with the other cameras chargers!

Once you confirm which exact serial number of battery you should order some of the packs of wasabi batteries. The ones I've bought not only had spare batteries but also a charger.

From what I'm reading, the K50 uses the D-LI109 battery and the K5II and K3 use the D-LI190 battery. Physically, they look similar. I still haven't figured out if the chargers are compatible. They come with different chargers.

NO! The D-Li109 (K-r/30/50/500/S1/S2) battery will not fit in the D-Li90 (K-7/5/3/01) charger.

The K-50 DOES NOT use the same battery or charger as the K-3.
The K-50 has the D-Li109 7.4V battery and uses the D-BC 109 charger.
The K-3 has the D-Li90 7.2V battery and uses the D-BC 90 charger.

Look for a used D-BC 109 on ebay or find an aftermarket battery with charger on Amazon.

I corrected myself as you typed this.
I misread the battery product nums as they are similar.
See my corrected post above.

Yeah, it was SUCH a bad idea to call the one battery "109" and the other "190". (I know it was originally "90", but they could have skipped straight to "290").

Edit: some sellers list a D-L190 or sometimes D-li190, but it should be D-Li90 or D-Li90P (newest version)

I second the recommendation to find a used Pentax charger if possible. I have the Wasabi, and use it for travel, but it charges faster and heats the battery more, which will shorten life.

No. None of the Pentax DSLRs have that ability.

The K-50 shares its battery only with the K-r, K-30, K-500, K-S1, and K-S2. The battery model is the D-Li109 and the corresponding charger is the D-BC109.

For the K-50, you can also get an AA battery holder (D-BH109) instead of using the dedicated battery.

Third-party knock-offs of all of these accessories are out there. I recommend that you check reviews before buying anything that isn't genuine. Wasabi products (as mentioned above) do work well.
