Product registration? dead website in US?

Does anyone have any evidence that there are humans involved with the Ricoh Pentax US website?

I've tried chat; never got anyone online.

I've tried email; no one ever responded.

I tried product registration; dead link (http://us.ricoh-imaging.com/support/register-products).

I tried their forum (butt ugly); no one from Pentax ever responds.

Is it just a placeholder, i.e. there is no real US presence?

That new website has been a real embarrassment in my opinion. I feel like they should have gotten everything up to speed before taking the wrapper off it. Somebody needs to let HQ know this is a disaster. It shows gaps in the lens lineup, misinformation, broken links...

Well, checking back; it appears I might have registered my K3 on the Australian site! The website ID shows "au", which I think is Australia.

http://www.pentax.com.au/warranty-registration

So now I don't know if my K3 is actually registered or not, and I read that it has to be registered within 14 days. I'd like to be able to check on my registration; but as you mentioned, good luck!

Agreed...the impression I get is that they were premature with the launch celebration party and that when they pulled themselves off the floor the next morning the developers had skipped town with the money, the source code, and the server passwords. If they are having problems, they should have retained the previous support site on a separate server as an interim solution.

In the meantime, how can we be assured our cameras are actually registered? There used to be a registration card that one could fill out & mail, however, no more. I just bought the extended warranty; but if I don't have proof of the original registration; what good is it?

I don't think you actually need to register. If you ever need support, all you need is proof of purchase from an authorized seller and send the equipment and proof to Precision Camera.

I once called US Ricoh and the guy said registration is basically for marketing purposes, not warranty.

In the USA there is no requirement to register.

Glad we can get this info here, rather than trying to find it on the Ricoh site!

I got warranty work done on my K-3 with just proof of purchase so you should be ok.

Agreed about the website. They really need to get it together!

Registration is not necessary in the US (with the possibly exception of the gold/platinum service plans for the 645Z). Just be sure to retain your original receipt and it'll suffice for warranty service.

But speaking of the web site, they've redesigned it again and it's even harder to find what you're looking for now. They don't even have a list of press releases any more!

I honestly wonder if the person/firm redesigning their website is actually on the payroll elsewhere!

EDIT: Now we know the real reason the FF was delayed - they couldn't get the website working soon enough!

Does every thread have to turn into a FF thread?

Yes of course. Didn't you read the bylaws when you registered for an account?

The new site looks nice superficially. The wording in places is poorly choosen IMHO.

"Begin your Medium Format journey with this extensive, all-in-one kit."
At first read, no kidding, I thought they said ExPensive.
