Shutter release color change

It seems that the dSLR market as a whole is moving from silver/chrome shutter release buttons to black. Pentax put a chrome button on the K10D and a black one on the K20D. Is there underlying logic that I'm missing?

Chrome is far better, it reduces noise and increases dynamic range.

Oh, absolutely. I also find I can squeeze at least another two raw images into a burst when using a chrome button.

Well the button on the battery grip for the K10 is black also so I guess it was only a matter of time before the one on the camera changed as well...

I find that the black button on my K20D increases the resolution.

However, Pentax in their great understanding of the typical photographer had a purpose: the chrome button was so you could check to see if you had anything stuck in between your teeth. And the straps they used to supply used to have a little protrusion you could use as a tooth pick.

First the strap thing went, and now the button... what's next? the letters TAX replaced by ON??

The chrome added an incredible amount of weight to the camera, not to mention considerable manufacturing cost, but the kicker was they found out the sunlight flashing off it scared off wild life, so it was done away with.

It could happen!

Too many people are distracted by shiny things and miss shots.

Better stealth than bling. Black is so much better.

I like the chrome button myself - if you angle it just right, it helps you pick up on any stray nose gold before anyone else does.

I think that they should provide both colours in the box with the cmara, and you could choose to install the one you'll like better. Of course with assist of Pentax technician...
They've done it with grip... why not with shutter button....
