You are right, they did make it very clear the KS line would be cameras that were unique and marketed to new users. But they said that when the non traditional KS-1 came out. Then the much more traditional KS-2 came out, with a very similar feature set to the K-50 and a similar price, and right about on the traditional min-range dslr replacement cycle. At the same time the K-50 dropped significantly in price. Call it what you want, but it sure sounds like a replacement to me. If the KS-2 is not a replacement for the K-50, the K-60 is about 9 months overdue.

Ricoh still lists the K-3 as a current model, but it would be hard to argue it has not been superseded or replaced by the K-3II.
My guess (and that is all it is) is that the next APS-C camera will be a new semi-pro model to replace the K-3II, followed quickly by a an entry level dslr to replace the KS-1. After that we will see a new mid-range DSLR. What will that one be called? I am not even going to speculate.
