I went out with a k r the other day & i really liked it (the green button is really in a nice place as opposed to the K3..) & they can be had quite cheap + i found it's iso performance impressive. But maybe another older body would be even better?? for whatever reason that comes to mind..
I bought a K50 in August and bought a very lightly used K-r the following month via the Marketplace.
It has been outstanding, and rather than being a backup I use it as much as the K50. I found that when comparing the two head-to-head, "keepers" is more determined by which camera had the more appropriate lens for the environment vs. which camera took the shot. The little K-r even has a useful dust detection system the K50 should have duplicated. That said, the K50 has notable advantages over the K-r that might matter a lot more to some people (AF, ISO, WR).

I've been out this weekend with a kr (that i purchased for someone else..) & my K3.
Although Kr is a fine camera & it felt good a second body, the thing that struck me was the difference in viewfinder size.. Jee, & what a difference that was :-)

If you're looking for best bang for the buck, go K-30.

If you're looking for best low light performance, lowest noise at lowest price, go K-5iis

If you're looking for most compatible with current camera, go K-3

I shoot primarily manual with vintage K, M and A lenses with the K-30 and it's performance is outstanding.

thks for all opinions
I've been on the look out in mean time:
Since i'm planning to get the 16 85 as allround WR lens...

One shop seems to have the combo Ks2 and 16 85 for sale for 999euros. Not sure whether it is a 'one box' combo or if this is something they are just combining themselves.
Another shop has a 2ndhand K5IIs (mint, low shutter with warranty) for sale for 499euros. If i play them, i am pretty sure i can buy it together with the 16 85 for a 1000euros as well.

Both options leave buying a used k30/kr & new 16 85 behind i guess...

Wonder which would be the best choice? The swivel screen on the Ks2 seems nice to have, but apart from that, the K5IIs seems a bit better combo with my k3 & maybe more suitable for my kind of work which is mostly landscape and industrial images..
thks
chr

ps: K5IIs doesn't seem to have focus peaking? But it shares the same batteries with my K3 i guess...

That is correct, the Kiis does not have focal peaking.

For the record:
I picked up a kr as second body and a combo 18 55 / 50 200 (both WR) for my k3 when needed. All on the dirt cheap but very nice stuff.

My reasoning is that i don't know yet what my upgrade path will be. So i'm not investing in a 16-85 nor a more expensive 2nd body now.
I might stick with apsc, i might go FF, i might want 645...

& the kr is such a sweet little camera. :-)
