what second body to choose

need some real life advice here.

I need a 2nd body for using my m lenses. With only one body i always forget to shift from av or whatever mode to M mode...
+ it is simply nice to go out with two bodies to reduce lens changing.

I have three now:
K3
K20d
K01

I just sold the K01. Although nice, i can't do without a viewfinder & a decent handgrip.

And k20d, although i like it a lot & i'll keep it for it's long battery life & sturdiness, i noticed i'm getting frustrated using it next to the K3. Especially when evening falls & light becomes low but gentle & nice.

I went out with a k r the other day & i really liked it (the green button is really in a nice place as opposed to the K3..) & they can be had quite cheap + i found it's iso performance impressive.
But maybe another older body would be even better?? for whatever reason that comes to mind..

K-S2 gives you everything or better than the K-01 did, plus WR, an articulated LCD and WiFi among other features. Even the K-S1 if you want something even more compact.

yes ok, but i want to stay on the second hand options just for the low price...
I threw the k r out there as an example. it can be had for quite a steal.

Some 'new' combo's with the wr 18 135 are interesting (as i want to add a wr lens to my prime collection) but i just decided i want a 16-85..
and that combo seems only available with another K3 (which would be nice ofcourse :-) .

Hi,

I think a K5 may be right for this.
I use my K20 as all weather/daylight backup and K-x as low light backup. A K5 would combine both strengths into one.
I still occasionally use my K100DS with m lenses but for lightbox studio shots.

Thanks,

Then you should have kept your K-01
Part of me wishes I'd kept mine....

Something with switch and menu layouts as close to your primary body as possible.

If going for an older body, don't go so far back you lose SDM/DC capability. I have a feeling we'll be needing that a lot more in the future.

no i shouldn't. Like i said, i need viewfinder and handgrip.
K01 was a nice camera but i didn't use it except for video when i had nothing else for video.

K50, where i live, it is not going for a song. reasonably priced yes.
But for the money, i can also get a very nice 2ndhand K5.
And for 60% of that price, i can get a 2ndhand k30
And for 40% of that price a kr

The thing i really liked on the kr in use with my m lenses, was the placement of the green button.
I looked at pictures on the net & its in the same place for kr, k30, k50.

Maybe k30 is a good middle option? Believe it has focus peaking as well.
And two dials, and WR as opposed to kr.

You should get a second K-3. Same layout, no confusion.

I think you've already answered your own question here.

I always run the same make and bodies in pairs so there's no thought process involved in operation of settings etc.

Do you want to use green button or optical preview method for your m lens metering? Many non-pro bodies only support green button (k50).

I'm fine with just the green button.

Ks-1 is cheap. I think I saw that Samys had it for 199 again if you used a 100 rebate. Unclear if they ship to you since I'm on mobile and can't see your location right now.

With the same two cameras I get the same thing now. When I take out the K20D it seems excruciatingly slow even in good light. If I were buying today, I'd probably go for the K-S2. I seriously want that tilting screen for macro.

I still have my K-01, and I'll probably never get rid of it, because I like how it fits in my camera bag with the 40XS on it. It's the secodbcamera I don't want to use often, but it's way better than nothing if my first camera fails.
