Firmware update for K200D

I'd like to have the possibility of control of my camera with a computer and the software "Pentax Remote Assistant 3", as with the K10D and K20D

Not only that, but I would like four star jpegs, but I don't know if this Sony sensor can do that.

K200D IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH Pentax Remote Assistant 3.

The sensor has nothing to do it. The "star" ratings are a way of controlling the amount of compression applied in the JPEG conversion. The more stars, the less compression that is applied. If the amount of compression applied by the camera at the highest setting is too much for you, then you can always shoot RAW and do the conversion yourself and choose a lower compression setting still.

Is there any other software that will control the K200D through the computer?

Dear Mr. Carney,
Thank you for contacting Pentax.
The K200D will not work with remote assistant software. Only the ist D, K10D and K20D models support remote assistant.
If you are in need of further assistance, please respond to this email or call our technical support center at 800-877-0155.
Sincerely,
Randall Schumacher
Pentax Imaging Technical Support

Your Email:
Is there any remote assistant software other than RA3 that will work with the K200D. I just bought one and would like to control it by computer.
William

Guess that answers that. I'll try and return my K200D and go back to film.

If you need tethered shooting you could try Eye-Fi.
It would not allow for a full control, but allow to snatch captured pictures from camera while shooting.
If interval shooting is needed, it could be done with wired remote socket and simple intervalometer.

Full control is desireable. While self timer and mirror lock would reduce vibration actually touching the camera in any way induces movement. Shooting through a 8inch SCT takes time to settle down. I want to do complete remote photography. My Atlas mount and autoguider are both controlled by computer. It's pretty clear that the K200D is not going to work so back it goes. I will probably dump all my Pentax gear now and just start over with Canon or Nikon. Even though I have used Pentax for 40 years. Thanks anyway, Pentax just does not have it now days.

Yes, for Linux. If you are computer savvy or an adventurer then this is worth a look.

будет отлично если прошивки k200d будут обновляться! я бы очень хотел увидеть в меню автоспуск затвора по таймеру и более длительные настройки выдержки
