Originally posted by randomax was trying to photograph a bird today and was fairly close to it. I was so sure in my mind that this one's gonna be a keeper. I do generally take 3 shots - To circumvent the shake issue when shooting handheld. However, as soon as I clicked the first one, the sound scared the bird away.. I have a Pentax k-50.
With my K-30, if the bird wasn't scared away by the "coffee grinder" noise of the 55-300 (or my old 170-500) focusing, the shutter racket didn't bother them.
As others have said, the shutter on the K-3 is MUCH quieter. Screwdrive AF seems quieter on the K-3 too - maybe because of the more powerful motor?
The quietness of the combination of a DC lens (18-135) and the K-3 shutter was a revelation to me. DC AF in a 55-300 (or its successor) would be great. I guess I could stump up for a DA*300 with its SDM focusing (and stellar resolution, by all accounts) - but I'd have trouble justifying that to my better half.
