Upgrade a K5?

I love my K5 (and the old used K20 that I bought for goofing around). K5 is a tad slow for taking pictures of kids running around (or it could be just me!). So if I decide to upgrade what would be the best option right now?

What would be a better option among K5-IIs and K3-II? I won't dismiss K3-II just because of lack of on-board flash.

In some thread I read comments saying K5IIs produces better overall image compared to K3, what do you think?

Thanks!

I would go K-3 or K-3ii if I were you, better AF and IQ.

The K-3ii has some algorithms that improve tracking auto focus over the K-3 which is already a big improvement over the K-5.

The K-3 is a lot better at focusing & supposedly the continuous autofocus on the K-3II has been improved a bit more. More keepers.

This.

In practice the K-3 and K-3 II are almost identical, so I'd base your decision on whether or not you need the on-board flash.

Are there AF tracking improvements in K3-II compared to K3?

I am not totally sold on pixel shifting but on-board flash is not a deal killer for me.

Image quality is foremost (that is why I am still with Pentax), AF is equally important that closely follows!

Is there a specific reason why K3-II received a slightly lower overall rating compared to K3 in PF's review? (8.6 vs 8.8)? I know the difference is small and subjective but still!

Check the fine print on the tracking AF improvements. You need specific lenses to get it. Of the ones listed, the 150-450 is on my list. I'll use my life insurance after I die to buy it ...

Are there any high ISO noise comparison between K5 and K3?

Umpteen of them, most of which claim the K5 has better noise control, and most of which are not correct when you compare like subject sizes. Then they are about the same. Have a look at my Flickr high ISO set for the K3 images I've shot in the little time I've had the K3. The flag is at 12800.

Kind of hard to be impressed with the same stats presented again with a higher price tag. That, and the lack of OBF makes for a slight concern to more than those the built in GPS excites.

Double-check the fine print: The AF-C improvements should be generic, specific lenses can have AF-S improvements. It's unclear whether the later is a camera or a lens improvement (over older lenses) though.
