Depends how much above 20MP. If it will be over 28, it would be a real hassle to store raw photos.. and it will probably be above 28MP, so I think I will wait with my 16MP as long as I can and get a new computer and a lot of storage first.

To be honest, 16MP is already too much for most of my uses. I hardly ever make large prints of 100% crops. And with web-size photos, the ultra fine detail almost never shows up anyway.

Quality lenses are more important than the camera body. I am in the process of upgrading from my Canon T2i with cheap variable aperture lenses (except my 50mm 1.8) to Pentax gear. I kept the body cheap by buying a used K-5 (only 3500 shutter accusations) and have started buying quality lenses, the first one being the DA* 16-50mm. Once I complete lens upgrade path, I will consider a newer body such as the K-3.

Definitely no- I was happy with 6mp and I'm happy with 16mp..

The plan is to run my k5iis into the ground and buy the replacement to the replacement to the k3(ii) when it goes on clearance (i.e. at the time in the future when the replacement to the replacement to the replacement to the k3(ii) comes out). However, I will also investigate used FF cameras at this time, hopefully while riding a hover bike from store to store.

Also have a k-30, and i refuse to upgrade until I start to feel limited by it which won't anytime soon. However, upgrading lenses is a different question.

My K-5 is my back up to a my K-3, and, in that capacity it's just great. I'd have no issues at a all going back to it if needed. I plan to rent an FF once they're available, and do some comparisons. I have doubts as to whether what it will have to offer will be worth to me what it costs.

I'm not in current need of an upgrade in body, I have a few lenses on the list first. When I do upgrade MP won't be the reason, other features like built in GPS and wifi are more tempting. The two things that would make me jump in 2016 would be winning the lottery (hard when you don't buy the tickets) or ridiculous fire sale prices. What I'd really like would be a K3II and the upcoming K-1. My daughter is getting married in 2016 so more likely it will probably be the new memory card and QR plate I just ordered.

Ya, a couple of times I've been tempted to upgrade just for the GPS. When you get back from a 10 day trip, it can be tough remembering exactly where each picture was taken. They do have the add on, but, that would just be another thing to get lost, and have to be searched for when needed.

I'm going to get a K-3 when I think it's time. If that doesn't materialize then I'll wait a bit longer & get a K-3II at a lower price.

My ideal camera would be something like an updated K-5IIs but with a newer 18MP or 20MP sensor with 14 bit raw files, better white balance, & far better continuous autofocus algorithms. I would take this over a 24MP camera any day.

Nope, because:

* 16 Mp is the upper limit of what I subjectively need.
* 16 Mp is the upper limit of what my computer can handle.
* There is no significant benefit to currently available newer sensors in Pentax bodies.
* I'd like but don't particularly need better AF.
* I don't need to crop.

Basically, I'd consider buying a newer APS-C camera if it was up to 16-18-20 Mp, has a significantly better sensor and AF and is
a) comparable size&build wise to K5II (I don't like how KS2 feels).
b) significantly smaller/lighter than K5II (KS1 form is ok for what it is)

I don't care about LCD, dual slots, wifi, gps, video, more buttons & wheels.

I'm not interested in FF; that's too much for me in every sense.

^ The K-S2 is a nice camera, but it's not on my upgrade list. I want 14 bit RAW files from my next camera.

The 14 bit RAW files make a pretty big difference at higher ISOs. Comparing the K-30/K-50 12 bit files to the K-5 & K-5II 14 bit files, the difference in image quality can be noticed from ISO 800 & above. At ISO 6400, the K-30/K-50 lag pretty far behind the K-5 & K-5II. The color & fine detail is far more accurate with the K-5 cameras. The K-5IIs is about the same, but sharper since no AA filter is used. There is some false coloring & loss of fine details in the K-30/K-50 12 bit raw files, but they still look very good.

I'm still quite impressed with my K-50's high ISO abilities, though. I couldn't really shoot past ISO 400 with my old 10MP Sony A200 DSLR camera. Sometimes I would shoot up to ISO 800, but I would usually get very grainy & harsh looking pictures. ISO 1600 was pretty much unusable & there was no sense in even using ISO 3200. I can shoot up to ISO 12800 on my K-50 in a pinch.

TBH I would love to upgrade from my K7 to a K3...but I just don't have the money It's so bad, I saw a 28-105 lens on ebay for 32 dollars plus shipping and I can't even afford that.

I was SERIOUSLY thinking of buying Nikon(yuck!) d610 but I just couldn't make the final step to finalise it, so... I've bought FA 31mm limited instead lol. It would be nice to jump onto FF Pentax body, but I am afraid it will be way out of my price range... especially now...

Maybe k-3 in future, but only maybe.

So for now my k-50 is here to stay.
