yep...same from NZ to Oz...pay for the flights, hotel and dinner and still well ahead

Import duties have a lot to do with the prices. I don't know current numbers, but US import duties on camera equipment is historically 3-5 percent. European countries have import duties in the 15 to 20 percent range.

We need to save our money for health care and other things that our gov. does not provide. In the end, I think it all evens out.

Yeah this is a very important point. We are lucky here in that respect.

Everything is expensive in UK! Having shot on and owned various different makers' kit over decades, I've gone back to Pentax (started out with a K1000) as I still kept a couple of stonking oldskool lenses.

Obviously, deals can be had on new gear with various promotions but the list price is silly, analogous with the UK vs US price for all things Apple. The fruit company can get away with it because of demand but I do often feel that Pentax is becoming an endangered species!

Deal-wise, I was over the moon to pick up a K-S1 (my photography needs are vastly diminished these days!) body for £199 brand spanking just before Christmas.

Absolutely right -a friend in Germany calls the UK 'Treasure Island' - for clothes and groceries and stuff like that £1= €1 -not a Ricoh-Pentax thing at all

Less warranty? I thought all EU countries are the same in this respect?

Yep. My mouse. 6years abroad 3 years home.
My gpu. 2 years abroad 1 year home.
Almost half of the electronics we get warranty is lowered and price get higher.
Thing is price, warranty and extras that accompanies the product are dependable on the deal made. Same goes for cars and such. No cars come with full extras in Greece like ever.
EU is a big farse. And we are the leading Clown unfortunately.

Well, 10 or 15 years ago I thought that the EU idea is good. Today I don't hold this view anymore. Disappointing? Yes, it is. Personally I think that EU will pull apart and it won't take long. And hardly one will regret it (except Brussel's bureaucrats).
