Camera Straps

I use a couple of different but similar Tamrac straps that have quick connect/release as I often use without the strap attached. The connectors also match the connections on my Tamrac Expedition 6x back pack for carrying in front with the back pack on my back.

Black Rapid Double when carrying both bodies and 1/2 of the Black Rapid Double when carrying just one body. After purchasing the Black Rapid Double last spring I took the neck straps off of both bodies and haven't looked back!

Wrist straps and Peak Design Capture Clip plates. Convenient for carrying both cameras (K10D IR, K-5) at hand.

If so which strap and why.

I have the included neck strap on my K-50 but never really put it round my neck.
I have a couple. A Lens Loop made from seat belt material - it's long but not as comfortable if just wearing a t-shirt. I tend to use it if I'm wearing a jacket.
A Black Rapid strap which is very nice, with its curved pad.

after reading many posts on the subject i went with the optech sling, wrist strap and an ebay arca plate. i can switch between the sling and wrist straps easily, but after a year it seems the wrist strap is on most of the time. however it is nice to have the sling for events - races, hikes, parties - whenever i want to have the camera handy for a long period of time and i am on the move.

I make my own with strap I have bought from Wal-Mart in the fabric/sewing section. It is the same width that the original Pentax strap is, so I use the securement pieces that came with the original strap to secure it. That way I can make the length I want/need. It only costs a coupe dollars or so too. I also have bought the strap online.

I have mostly used neck straps so far. Basically what I have described above. I usually carry.my camera/lens weight in my hands though. The strap is for safety purpose.

Peak Design Slide (mostly as a sling strap, sometimes as a neck strap), plus a Capture clip, plus a Cuff wrist strap.

I like to have options.

I use the included neck strap in a few different ways. It rarely hangs from my neck unless I know I'll be standing in one place a long time. For walking, I wear it diagonally across my torso, with the camera hanging above my left hip; I can rotate it into shooting position for a quick shot. My usual means of using the strap is coiling it around my wrist and carrying the camera in my right hand.

Today I went for a walk after removing the neck strap.
It felt weird not having a strap, but I think I prefer it.

I just swapped out the one that came in the box with my new K-50 and replaced it with the nice cloth one that came with my K-1000 30 years ago I find the camera heavy, so I use it around my neck. Might try a sling someday.

Third party sling strap and third party neck strap are nothing alike

Using a Black Rapid Curve helped cure some neck problems that were aggravated with the weight of a camera around the neck. To carry a second camera I also bought a cheap Caden knockoff on ebay after a friend told me his was great. Mine is junk, the strap is too thin for the buckles to hold, and the rubber on the tripod socket plate was too hard to allow it to tighten properly. Since then I also bought a cheaper Black Rapid Cross Shot which also works great.

+1. The RS-7 is superb. I also got a cheap knock-off to use with another camera, and the strap on that is too thin for the buckles. It's a shame, as the plate on mine is quite good - I may re-use it with a different strap...

Now use a Gordy wrist strap. Have never used the cloth neck strap that came with the DL2 or the K20 but replaced them with the neck strap from a Spotmatic, skinny and longer but cameras swing about and are unbalanced hanging from the neck. Strap takes up space when traveling and foul the optical viewfinder when in portrait mode.

I tried using one of those padded straps that holds your hand against the side of the camera with the DL2 but this style did not allow the hand to easily move to all the buttons the right hand fingers uses. Tried to like it but chucked it away.

Then tried a shorter Novoflex neck strap one with quick release buckles to allow easy tripod use. When the K3 Prestige arrived used the Novoflex one for a while but then used the leather supplied one after 12 months and moved the Novoflex to the K20. But it just became really cumbersome and took up heaps of space in the camera bag.

So recently saw the Gordy one and bought it a few months ago and have been using it for the last four months. Really good support and allows free movement of hand over the camera controls but giving security against accidental droppage.

I usually use a neck strap. I have a few old Kodak neck straps that have the elastic loops for holding canisters of film. But I just use the Pentax straps that came with my cameras. On my MX-1 and P&S cameras a wrist strap is used.
