K30 vs K50

I have read several reviews of these two units, but am having difficulty in actually figuring things out.

Can someone who has experience with both tell me the major differences that I will run into moving to the K50 from the K30. I like the K30 but have a problem and need to replace it with something, so I'm wondering if there is much difference.

What are the major differences in the K30 and K50? Will I have to change much in the way that I have gotten used to?

I liked my K30 but have a problem that will require replacement and am hoping to stay similar in how it operates.

Thanks for all your input.

The K50 is a K30 in a different wrapper with a slightly higher max iso setting of 51,600 which is basically useless anyways.

ISO as mentioned above plus native eye-fi menus. Details here: Pentax K-30 vs. Pentax K-50 - Pentax Camera Comparison - PentaxForums.com

The K-50 and the K-30 have the same feature set, the same specifications, the same electronic components, and the same control layout. You'd only need to get used to the different appearance.

Thanks so much Uncle Vanya. This is exactly the type of comparision I have been looking for. The specs look identical.

Thanks so much. That is what I had decided.

I have both and use them interchangeably, there's really no difference in operation. I know the K-50 has a couple of additional bells, but I don't remember what they are.

You can pick up a K-5 used for around the same price as a K-50 and it has way more options on it like ISO 80 and 1/8000 of a second. Some other nice stuff too.

I haven't had a K-50, but their vital stats are almost identical: Pentax K-30 vs. Pentax K-50 - Pentax Camera Comparison - PentaxForums.com

Claimed extras in the K-50:
Composition Adjustment
Eye-Fi wireless transfer
ISO up to 51200
Full time Manual mode during Video capturing mode
Faster and more responsive M processing engine
On-demand autofocus during video recording
Supports 4 focusing screens
Comes in 120 body colors and body design
Kit lenses are WR versions

The improvements to the video function are worthwhile, and some people like Eye-fi, but the rest of the differences are trivial.

And the K-30 was better looking.

Thanks for any and all info.
Except for their appearance, the two cameras are virtually identical in terms of features and handling.

Yup they're pretty much identical. The K-50 doesn't have any new features, through the menu options were updated a bit. They got rid of ISO expansion and added native Eye-Fi card support.

The rakish snout on the K-30's viewfinder can cause interference with fingers and focus rings., that's the biggest functional difference.

The other added-benefit is that the K-50 may potentially suffer from the same aperture mechanism block as the K-30. Sadly, the risk of this eventuality has prevented me from acquiring a K-50 for my son. Just don't need any new potential headaches...
