-- I wouldn't have expected so--but an original Q w/ the toy wide lans (#4) and an optical finder (Voigtlander 40 mm) has become my standard lens on backpacking trips, and every other day in my jacket pocket or book bag. (As an example as a teacher I simply photograph the board, as a record of what I covered that day.)
-- The alternatives (for me) would be a K-x or K-5, but having a camera in my pocket/bag every day is amazing.
-- BTW I use raw and if I used jpg only I may/likely would feel differently.

--But if it is to be dslr, then I would think either the K-x or K-5 will be fine and inexpensive now--if talking about sensor/image (not AF or such, and not high pixel count). Based on thousands of theatre shots I do w/ K-20d, K-x, and K-5 (all at same performance) every year, the K-x is qualitatively about 1/2 stop better than K-20d, and K-5 is about 1/2 stop better than K-x. So no major sensor difference there, and thus no major sensor difference in any Pentax dslr you likely are considering.

+2 for the K-50. Less than $300.00 on Amazon right now. You can't find a bigger bang for your buck anywhere on earth!

For the price you just can not beat the K50. I have as a second body to my K3. It really is a nice little camera. The only real draw back for is longer lenses seem a bit awkward without a grip. I also have the K-01 that I use as well. The sensor in the K-01 really impressed me. The nice thing about the K-01 is that uses the same battery as the K3.

If you can get a slightly used k-5II or IIs at a good price, go for it. If not I vote for the k-50 or ks-2.
