Need Help Decideing on second Pentax

I currently own a Pentax K-3 II. I was looking for a Pentax digital camera I could keep in the car for those unexpected shots? Something that wouldn't break the bank but has a good reputation and is a good performer.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
James

Easy - K-50 is really inexpensive right now, a steal. Great reputation.

If you really want something more, then go for the K-s2, but I really don't think the price increase is worth it for the type of use you're suggesting.

MX-1?
K-? With 18-250 or 18-200?

Most of the time I try to remember to throw my LX7 Panasonic in the car for similar reasons.

I love my k30, which is almost identical in performance to the k50.

An interesting question. Do you want a DSLR to leave in the car? The K-50 sounds like a great idea as Imp states. However, then you have to start deciding what lenses you want to have for those occasions as well. If you want a P&S or some other type of camera, why limit it to Pentax if you don't need to stay with the same mounting system?

I was going to say any of the Q cameras. I love the original Q despite the terrible battery life

I'd go for the K-50, or the K-S2 if you want resolution that's comparable to the K-3's.

Also think about the K-S1, its small, light weight, and same sensor as the K-S2. Just turn off the disco lights to keep it stealthy. Actually if you don't need a DSLR my "car" camera is an LX-7 FWIW.

+1 on the K-S1. Ignore the nay-sayers who bang on about small grip, disco lights, etc.

I've got a K-S1 and it's great for what you want, especially paired with a nice little Ltd like a 40mm

Why not a WG or Q or GR II?

I don't know what your summers are like but I wouldn't leave digital camera in a car out in the sun during the summer time here in SoCal.

My vote would be for one of the Q range. I picked up a new Q7 two-zoom kit some months ago, planning to use the camera primarily as a "back" for my K-mount lenses. It works well for that, but in reality I've ended up using it more for general photography. It's a great little camera with solid IQ, and a serious photographic tool. You can pick one up with lenses for very little money now, new or used. Importantly, it operates very much like its grown-up DSLR siblings, with lots of manual control available - and the best part is, it will shoot in RAW format
