I dropped my K-50...

...into a snowbank! You could almost say it was Norm's fault, he told me to go out and take pictures on dull days and that I could find something interesting (or something like that) I was walking in snow up to my knees! Tripped on a hidden log under the snow and my K-50 went flying through the air into the snow. When I reached it I had to actually dig it out as it was about a foot under. Luckily it just missed a log about 3 inches away from where it landed. Needless to say my K-50 is fully functional thanks to the WR and ruggedness of Pentax cameras and lenses.

Must not have been a white one, you might have been there a while searching for it

No, it's black.
I just had to swoosh my hand under the snow to find it, no colours matter.

No strap

Thinking about putting it back on now... I've had it off for a month and really prefer it without.
Hard choice.

I hate neck straps, but got a Camdapter hand strap and now don't feel comfortable shooting without it. Of course, if I'd tripped over the hidden log with the camera in my hand with the hand strap, I'd probably have fallen on the camera or broken my hand.

Always use a strap. Probably the first thing I learnt was if you pick up the camera, put the strap around your neck. It's a bit of a mess if you drop your camera on concrete rather than in snow.

Ditto, Mark! I ALWAYS put the strap around my neck FIRST THING, even before getting out of the car. Some folks have a very difficult time getting used to them, but they never seem to bother me. I suppose it's like getting used to a CPAP mask. Some just can't bear them.... but within two or three days, it was no problem at all for me. It's so much better than suffering the effects of sleep apnea.

Same thing, I just put mine back on after about a month... and then took it off immediately when I had to shoot some wrestling. It just kept getting in the way. I wonder if there are some easily removable straps...

Concrete is the only thing that Pentax WR gear is not made for

Thats why i use those Peak Design Anchor Links on all my camera bodys:

http://www.amazon.com/Peak-Design-Anchor-Camera-Quick-Connectors/dp/B00Q5XY2YQ/

Not very cheap for what they are but quick and secure.

If you don't like neck straps look into sling straps, they put the load on your shoulder and allow the camera to hang at your hip.
It's an expensive bit of gear, you really need to protect it.
